Hocher Hotel
Our history
Reconstruction after World War II
The reconstruction efforts following World War II were crucial for our present-day hotel. Although heavily damaged in 1945, the walls remained intact up to the first floor. Hanns-Jürgen Berger and Tobias Lauterbach presented a comprehensive urban planning and monument preservation analysis of this process in their entry. It’s fascinating to see how our building was rebuilt despite the challenges of the war and regained its significance for the community.
Planning and building permit
The plans for reconstruction were initiated in 1946, and in the following year, 1947, the project obtained the building permit. The responsibility for planning lay in the hands of Zwedling, who closely adhered to the original construction. Despite the adherence to the original, the design of the building’s facade was noticeably simplified, and the arrangement of windows was also revised. A particularly creative feature was the addition of additional dormer windows in the half-hipped roof.

Historical Usage According to the Rothenburg Calendar
The Rothenburg Calendar from 1909 to 1951 provides interesting insights into the historical use of the building. From 1843 to 1880, it housed a bakery owned by the Vogel family. From 1892 to 1902, Friedrich Schlee operated the bakery, and from 1904 to 1951, Johann Frei and later Hans-Carl Frei were the owners.
New Era Under Nicole, Mike and Lara Hocher
In 2014, we, Nicole and Mike Hocher, took over the hotel. Another significant development occurred in 2023 when our daughter, Lara Hocher, joined. The historic building has transformed into a hospitable hotel. The continuous care and utilization of the structure reflect the successful blend of past and present in Rothenburg ob der Tauber.
